The Silky Oaks’ Inspire – Therapy Program is funded by the Queensland Government Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women (the Department) to provide Counselling Intervention Services (CIS) to children and families. Referral to the program must come from the Department, and can support any client or family subject to a child protection intervention or order.

The team sits within the broader Inspire Program and consists of a group of highly qualified and experienced professionals committed to delivering current, evidence-based therapeutic interventions within a client-centred framework and using a range of modalities. The team specialise in working with children and young people who have experienced harm, neglect and trauma.

The program operates from an ‘Outcomes-Focused’ framework, which is guided by the Queensland Out-of-Home Care outcomes for young people:

  • Connected – Sense of identity, belonging, connection to culture, family and social networks
  • Achieving – Learning and developing to full potential
  • Healthy – Healthy lifestyle choices and connection to services
  • Resilient – Strong social and interpersonal skills and feel confident to pursue life goals and manage challenges

The team consists of experienced Therapists with qualifications in the areas of: Psychology, Education and Developmental Psychology, Art Therapy and Counselling. Our Therapists endeavor to meet the needs of children and families by offering a broad range of therapeutic approaches and interventions, which may include:

  • Attachment and trauma informed therapy
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Creative arts therapies (art, drama, music, dance/movement and sand play therapy)
  • Child centred play therapy
  • Neuropsychotherapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Acceptance and Commitment therapy
  • Mindfulness
